Job Title - Oral Health Education - Dental Assistant

YOUR NEW ROLE:

The Dental Assistant Oral Health Educator plays a dual role in providing clinical dental assistance when required and delivering oral health education to clients. Working collaboratively with the broader dental team, this role ensures the delivery of up-to-date, evidence-based oral health education aimed at empowering individuals to improve their oral and general health and wellbeing.

This position focuses on several key operational areas within the dental service. The incumbent is expected to maintain a high level of knowledge and skill, particularly in the areas outlined in the section titled "Key Responsibilities and Duties."

Additionally, the role supports and actively participates in the operation of outreach services, aligning with Holstep Health's preventative care model and commitment to improving oral health outcomes in the community.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Receive and prepare clients for dental treatment, providing efficient and effective chairside assistance during clinical procedures.

• Provide oral health education to eligible individuals and groups in accordance to scope of practice and clinical guidelines to include oral hygiene instruction, dietary analysis and advice, saliva testing and advice, plaque scores and advice, provide information for prevention of dental injuries, tobacco and other substance advice and/or referral, Dental education for Diabetic patients (AusD Risk) screening and referral, Fluoride varnish application.

• Compliance with the National Safety & Quality Primary and Community Healthcare Standards, Infection Control Australian Standards, Sterilisation Standards and Dental record keeping auditing.

• Safe use and maintenance of dental equipment according to manufacturer's guidelines, advise Dental Team Leader/ Dental. Manager on the condition of dental equipment.

• Participate in mandatory training.

• Provide support and assistance to all dental staff including casual staff and less experiences staff and students.

• Participate and contribute to Dental promotion activities.

• To participate in providing dental services to the patients of the Smile Squad and outreach programs.

• Carry out any reasonable additional duties as directed by Holstep Health.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

• Certificate III in Dental Assisting

• Certificate IV in Dental Assisting Oral Health Education

• Registration for Fluoride Varnish application.

• Relevant Dental Nursing experience

• Experience in working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

• Demonstrated ability to perform to the highest standards

• Knowledge of infection control in Dental Clinic settings is essential

• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills

• Highly developed time management and organisational skills

• Commitment to the principles of public dental health

• Computer literacy skills

• Identify, assess and interpret sources of oral health information

• Dental record keeping as per DHSV and BCH requirements
